Astronomy Event

This will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22. Mark will check to see what events will be occurring during the event.

There are no school functions on this weekend.

We need to contact local schools and home school students to let them know that this event is available.

Dan will submit information about this event to the paper.

A bus from the Community Center to the site would be a good idea to help reduce traffic and light pollution at night.

Dan will ask David Seymour if he can grade the road to Karval Lake to make passage easier.

The Branding Iron is available for Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast and lunch. The Alliance could provide dinner for Saturday evening – sloppy joes, potato salad, baked beans, and homemade pie for $5. If we can work out concessions at the lake, we will do that as well.

Saturday’s meal will be at 5:30 p.m. The bus to the lake will leave the Community Center at 7:00 p.m. both nights.

Letha – baked beans
Betty Lee – potato salad
Dan and Russell – hamburger for sloppy joes
Frances – sloppy joe cooking
Mags – 2 pies
Dan – water, buns, 2 pies
Steve – cases of water, 100 buns, paper products (according to Frances’ inventory)
Winifred – ice tea and coffee, 2 pies
Sheri – 2 pies
Cherry – lemonade, cookies for the kids

Attendees need to bring mosquito repellent and a lawn chair.

Advertising – mostly word of mouth; Mark will take care of Karval, Hugo and Limon schools; Sheri will contact Fowler school; Dan will send out a news release; Mags will e-mail the release to everyone on the mailing list and make a flyer to post at various locations; Betty Lee will request more pies from some who are not in attendance at this meeting; Dan will ask Tami to post the event on Facebook and MySpace; Dan will send the press release to Tami to forward to a Colorado Springs radio station; Dan will talk to Sharla about sending information to online students, send his press release to the Limon radio station, and the KKTV meteorologist; Steve will post the current flyers around town

Frances will arrange for a bus from the school.

Russell Davis will call the Department of Wildlife to find out if we can sell concessions at Karval Lake. Dan will ask the school if they want to do concessions (if they are permitted).

Concession ideas – pop, water, ice, Gatorade small bottles, juice boxes/Capri Sun, granola bars, cookies, trail mix, boulder mix
