The Karval Community Board of Directors met with community members on November 13, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Tammy Thornton gave the treasurer's report for Jeff.  Carl has requested that we give all monies to the treasurer so he can keep better track of the funds.

Halloween Carnival proceeds were given to the Community Building Board.  There was some discussion about that decision, so we will need to know for sure next year what we want to do with the proceeds.

FFA Project – We have purchased 10 binoculars and 1 scope.  Will give to Dan to give to Katie.

Christmas LED lights – we still have some left to sell.

Carl Stogsdill is still working on The Small Steps Grant for the photo contest. He has it almost completed. July 1, 2009 is the deadline. Half of the match money has to be in cash. Carl is hoping to have some money left and that they will give us what we have asked for - which is $500.00. If not - we probably won't be able to have the contest this year. Photographer Nancy Stocker who is a wildlife photographer would like to help and she will be one of the judges. We will need 2 more judges. Susan Mikkelson said that she would ask Farmer's Union if they would like to help sponsor the contest.

Susan Mikkelson and Carl Stogsdill met with the Economic Development person from Trinidad.   And Trinidad is open to sharing their information with us and working with us. The first thing we need to do is talk to Dorman Brothers about where they are in the process and we need a definite answer within the next month as to what their plans are. Carl Stogsdill has agreed to talk to them.

Meat Packing Plant - Susan is going to a meeting in December and invited any to go along.

Christmas Decorating Contest -  Flyers are ready to be distributed.  Shari Logan, Frances Maskus and Betty Baily have worked really hard on this project.  Carl talked to Debbie Skilicorn at Mountain View Electric. The prize money will be determined - depending on how much funding we receive from them. Betty Bailey invited everyone to come to her house so we could tally the voting.

Web Site – Mags will contact Eric Hilton to see what she can about assisting with that site.

Carl said that Pat Vice with the Economic Development Office does not have any income at the present time.  Carl will discuss this further with Pat and the Commissioner

Carl Stogsdill brought an idea to the table that he thought it might be a good idea to send out an evaluation card to the community to see how they perceive the Alliance is doing. Dan Merewether suggested that we talk to the other organizations in the community to see if they have any input or ideas. Shari Logan agreed to talk to Willing Workers, Betty Bailey to Friendship Circle, Dan Merewether to the Lions Club and Carl Stogsdill to The Cattlemen's Association.

Peaks to Plains is promoting tourism. It is based in El Paso County but they do want to expand to other areas. They print a map every year that shows where their members are located. Membership is $250 and $500.

Letha Clark reported that she had a conversation with Maye Gene Lee about the tourism tax that was recently voted in, in Lincoln County. She thought that the commissioners would be looking for someone to represent each community to decide how the money could be best utilized for promoting tourism in our County. We will probably hear more about this later.

Our next meeting will be December 29th at 6:00 P.M. with a potluck dinner.

 Meeting adjourned at 9:35 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

 Letha Clark - Secretary
